What's going on!?

As usual I was perusing through the Jamaica Gleaner while sipping on my morning cupa' tea and I was instantly depressed by the lead stories that day! I read this news story about the new taxes that are going to be imposed! The local government is planning to tax basic necessities from feminine pads to gas!

I also read another article that the government is in negotiations for the sale of Air Jamaica. To make matters worse the government is also selling its twenty percent shares in the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) the nations electricity company. But wait... they're also selling the newly remodeled and revamped Norman Manley International Airport. So, in essence, they spent taxpayers monies just to sell the airport...I bet to a foreign investor too!

Here is the best (sarcasm) news of all ::drum roll: The government is planning on borrowing more money in this coming year...yet again...from the living devil a/k/a the IMF! I can't even comment on that!

It is all so sad! When a country borrows money from such an organization there are stipulations...crude stipulations! One of the key IMF policies is to privatize...as much as possible, even if its leads to long term internal economic detriment. Thus, I figure the government is selling out all the public owned entities! They fail to realize that a country can not grow if we are too dependent on foreign investment! Borrowing more money from the IMF is bad..bad..BAD! We need to focus on creating a feasible 50 year socioeconomic plan of action; building wealth from within! Jamaica is not a barren, hopeless nation! We have numerous resources that could be effectively exploited! Too many bad decision! Way too much CORRUPTION!

Sorry for my long monologue...it just kills me too see the downward spiral of the only place I will ever call home! Sigh!
