Channell Mellish for Miss Jamaica US 2010!

Good Morning everyone!

As some of you may already know I am currently a finalist in the Miss Jamaica US beauty pageant. I am representing the parish of St. Catherine, one of the largest and most economically thriving parishes in the quaint island of Jamaica.

The crowning affair takes place on Sunday, August 22nd at the Green Tree Country Club in New Rochelle, NY. At this time online votes are being accepted. You may vote for me by emailing missjamaicaus@gmail.com. Please post "Channell Mellish for Miss Jamaica US 2010" in the subject line. In the body of the email you may also opt to write a brief message about why you think I am the most suitable contestant for this prestigious role.

This is my first pageant, although I have modeled in a few fashion shows and modeled costumes for local and renowned carnival costume designers, Carnival Divaz Productions. I entered this pageant to expose myself to a new awe-inspiring experience, while at the same time hoping to get an opportunity to represent my homeland and present a positive image of Jamaican womanhood. In addition, this pageant and the title would grant me an opportunity to get more involved in a number of community organizations and service projects that assist the Jamaica community.

My platform/issue: There are a number of issues and affairs in Jamaica that are currently of interest to me, especially the escalating crime rate, the lack of viable obs for the newly graduated individuals entering the work force and of course, the ever growing "brain drain", where Jamaica's skilled youths are fleeing the island in hopes of better opportunities abroad. Although these issues are of paramount importance, the issue that most concerns me is the growing HIV infection rate amount the youth population. If I win the title I hope to use my influence and clout to initiate projects that work with community organizations on building programs to educate, guide and inform the impressionable youth about proper family planing techniques, safer sexual practices and the importance of a positive self image.

Thank you in advance for your time, consideration and YOUR VOTE! Please vote once a day every day until August 22nd! Your vote counts! Feel free to pass this email along to your friends, family and colleagues. Your efforts and support are appreciated!

For more information, please contact me directly at cvmellish@gmail.com and/or (917) 297-2731.

Best regards,

Modeling for Ramajay Mas!!

So, you know I loveee carnival and my mas! I absolutely can't get enough of the sheer rush and excitement! So, when the opportunity came up to model at the Ramajay Mas band launch I jumped on it! Ramajay Mas is a fairly new band in the NYC area, but they are the new "hot" bad yuh know! There are only in their sophomore year and they are the talk of the town....Sesame Flyers hadda take a backseat yes! They have sensational blinged out, SKIMPY costumes coupled with an on the road moving party reminiscent of the Trinidad mas vibe.

I modeled for the Carnival Divaz section "Aphrodite." It was quite an experience! I've modeled before (when I was thinner LoL!), but I've never done a band launch and I must tell yuh I was actually very nervous about whining on stage. It's different when you're whining down low at at party, as opposed to on a stage in front of a crowd of people critiquing your every move! It was almost impossible for me to get on bad or "wassy" on stage! Yuh fren had to take a hot before I went on stage LoL!

Anyway, in the end it was a great experience! Loved it! The band management is comprised of a group of young and organized individuals with a vision. Have to support that! Plus, they have fabulous costumes that are on par with costumes produced in Trinidad (well..some of the section...not all eh!). Although, I modeled the Aphrodite section costume I registered in Lakshmi, because I fell in love with the radiant pink and gold tones and uber sexy wire bra! I love ah naked costume! I can't wait to parade, prance and palance on the road come Labor Day!

Well...Yes!!! I'm Back!!!

Well...yes! I know it's been a longgg while, but I'm back! I must confess I got caught up with life! It has been an extremely hectic couple of months for me.

After returning from Trinidad Carnival I planned a trip to Jamaica Carnival (which was canceled due to unnecessary drama...ha!) started a film production certification course at MNN, applied for graduate school at The New School, traveled to Italy on vacation, started an internship at Travelista TV, modeled for Ramajay Mas Launch and entered the Miss Jamaica USA beauty pageant! I've been a busy little bee!

Now, I'm back where I started...planning for Trinidad Carnival 2011! This year will be different, as I'm going with a new, vibrant crew! So, on my next trip to Trinidad I intend on planning more "touristy" outings. Though I still will be going to all the fetes and playing mas and having a time!

Here are a few pictures from Trinidad Carnival 2010 (my arrival, fetes and mas with TRIBE Carnival):

Carnival Tabanca!

I'm back.....and with a serious carnival tabanca! Lawdy, I must have listened to that Problem Child song, "Part Hard" too much because say what...I'm sick like a toddler! Coughing, chest congestion, runny nose, fever...the works!

I'm going back to bed now! I will post about my FABULOUS time in Trini soon :-)

Carnival Countdown!!!

The countdown is on...

The next few postings will be related to Carnival! Please bare with me! Yuh all know I live for this! I'm almost all ready to go for Trinidad
Carnival! I just have a few more things to purchase and to pickup my Monday wear! Although I'm no longer in Mulberry, I'll still be wearing Monday wear to match that section. Its way too late to redesign and redecorate my Monday gear! See more Monday wear pictures below:
bra and boyshorts (not complete as yet!)

Monday boots
As I previously mentioned I'm in a new section in TRIBE. I absolutely adore my costume. Mystery of Loulan Premium Frontline! I'm in heaven. I plan to add feathers to my jeweled armpieces and rhinestone design along my upper body to add an extra "wow" factor to the costume. I'm a headpiece lover so I'm gong to attempt to keep on my headpiece for the entire day.

Mystery of Loulan Premium FL
In regards to fetes I've a packed lineup for the week before Carnival! I arrive in Trinidad on the 9th and will be enjoying every moment of this experience. This is my tentative fete schedule:
Wed, Feb 10th - Bacchanal Wednesday

Thurs, Feb. 11th - Beach House
Friday, Feb. 12th - Silent Morning Boat Ride & Girl Power

Sun, Feb 14th - Diamond Vale Breakfast Party & Brian Lara Fete

I'll also be attending the Beyonce Concert on February 18th! I told yuh all....I'm going every and anywhere!

I'm hoping to make the usual stops to Maracas for Richard's bake & shark, Trini treats and to my favourite doubles spot in Curepe.

Is there anywhere I must go while I'm in in Trinidad? Let me know!

They're Trying to Lock Me Up!!!

Oh gosh! Now, I have a story to tell yuh all a story! I've been downloading music for years...don't lie, we all do it! I recently cut back on the amount of music I download though, since I frequently receive free dj podcasts and mixes.

Now, while perusing my inbox last week I saw that I received a message from my Internet provider. The title of the email blew me away, "Notice of Claim of Copyright Infringement". What!? I immediately opened this message. Enclosed was the below letter:

What! They want to lock me up for downloading music...and downloading an Eminem song at that! I tell yuh these things only happen to me yuh nuh. Well, I sent Verizon a very witty response, where I basically stated that they need to use their time and energy to monitor the pedophiles downloading child pornography and let me and my minor infractions be! To be on the safe side I deleted all my music downloading software! I'm not going to jail over no music....yuh can "Smack That" Verizon Online!
